In case you don't understand the title, it's GB's... Except you sound it out as if it's a word. Geh-behs, or gbs.

Anyway, the point is... I went to Teddy'N'Me this past Saturday since I haven't played YGO in a while. Something like a half dozen times since February of last year. Naturally, I'm not sure what to play, or what to expect really, since I haven't kept too many ties to the game. Under different circumstances I would have probably played some D-Hero variant with DAD, but the list for March 1 hurts too much. What else do I have to fall back on? The truth is, the one deck that allowed me to win more duels than any other single deck since I started playing this game... GB's.

So, as the night turns to morning, I'm sitting at work trying to figure this out. 7am I'm off, head home to pull out the boxes of untouched ygo-ness. I figure there is no point in sleeping, cause I would end up changing my mind on going at all - sleep has that affect on me. Anyway, it's 7:30-ish when I'm home and the above thought process goes through my mind.

Where do I start? What kind of decks could I expect to play? I really had no idea. So, to give my old self a chance, that same self that won oh so many times with GB's, I decided to stick to a version of the deck that I knew worked, and synced with my mentallity in how to play this game: Gb's before the release of TDGS.

To not take cards post-TDGS into account would be naive, so I used a few. But I kept true to the original championship winning theme.

17 Monsters
2 Gladiator Beast Laquari
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
2 Elemental Hero Prisma
2 Gladiator Beast Darius
1 Gladiator Beast Equeste
1 Gladiator Beast Bestiari
1 Gladiator Beast Retiari
1 Gladiator Beast Murmillo
1 Gladiator Beast Hoplomus
3 Test Tiger
1 D.D. Crow

9 Spells
3 Book of Moon
1 Cold Wave
2 Enemy Controller
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Reinforcement of the Army

15 Traps
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
1 Call of the Haunted
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Dimensional Prison (should be 3)
3 Dust Tornado
1 Gladiator Beast War Chariot
1 Mirror Force
1 Sakuretsu Armor (I was missing a 3rd d-prison)
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Starlight Road

Side Deck
2 Banisher of the Radiance
2 Legendary Jujitsu Master
1 Gladiator Beast Hoplomus
3 Nobleman of Crossout
3 Light-Imprisoning Mirror
2 Pulling the Rug
2 Trap Hole

Extra Deck
1 Gladiator Beast Heraklinos
3 Gladiator Beast Gyzarus
1 Chimeratech Fortress Dragon
2 Stardust Dragon
1 Colossal Fighter
1 Black Rose Dragon
1 Goyo Guardian
1 Brionic, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Gaia Knight, Force of the Earth
1 Ally of Justice - Catastor
1 Magical Android
1 Armory Arm

Long story short: I went 4-0 in Swiss, won my top 8 match and the top 4 split for $44 each. Not too bad considering my goal of the day was only to win at least one game of every match. I guess you could say I succeeded.

what did you face, ive been thinking of going back to gbs cause chariot is so powerful...but i dont really know how to play the xsaber and infernity match up...so any advice is helpful

As much as I'd like to play more, I don't think it will really be possible. I mean I could play this summer but come September I'm heading back to school (and moving to Sarnia). We'll see what happens, but I'm definitely not spending money on YGO.

To be honest, I can't blame Phoenix 'cause truthfully it's not easy to maintain a good local YGO scene. Stores like Gemini or Phoenix have a hard time since they don't specialize in YGO and don't have a lot of buyers...so they put the tournament price at an amount which doesn't lose them money. The Turbo pack's are like $5/each or something and I'm sure they pocket some of it too, and whatever's left is your credit, no?

We're pretty fortunate here in the GTA for a couple reasons: We have multiple stores; each store has competitive pricing to sell stock, and it actually sells; tournaments usually equal 15+ people, so lots of people showing up; and the stores sell other items which make up for anything lost on YGO sales/tournies.

Until people can prove to Phoenix that YGO is worth supporting more (aka people buy a LOT more YGO) then I doubt they'll do anything more. It's a sad truth, but sometimes you don't have much choice.

Well I can start out by saying I didn't play against any Infernities... at the time of the tournament only a couple people had the cards to play it...one opted for a different deck (x-sabers) and the second couldn't play due to working the morning. And well I didn't end up playing x-sabers at all other than just for fun before the tournament and I wasn't doing too well haha.

As far as siding/playing against those match-ups... Crow it pretty awesome against Infernities if you time it right, and I suppose Consecrated Light might be good against them as well as Blackwings. I dunno, it's tough to say exactly.

What I did play against was:

Round 1: Light-Hero (typical Stratos, Alius, Honest, Cyber Dragon, Thunder-King etc)
Round 2: Froggy Monarchs
Round 3: Quickdraw Dandy Warrior
Round 4: Blackwings
Top 8: Froggie Monarchs (Same person as round 2)

I will mention that the MVP of this tournament had to have been Retiari. Not so helpful in the first round, but removes Frog to shut down the Monarch engine, removes Dandy/other necessities against Quickdraw, removes Vayu/other Blackwings to help prevent Synchros from Vayu or Blizzard.

A couple of notes:
1) Be wary of a Starlight Road against your Gyzarus. That just really messes up your day. That being said, don't Gyzarus one backrow - Bottomless loves it when you do that.
2) Herk wins games. In ways you wouldn't even think of.
3) Never underestimate the power of a defence mode Hoplomus that has been swapped in.
4) Cold Wave is still the best card. Even with 3-4 backrows, drawing Cold Wave is just dirty (not as effective against Monarchs).
5) It's still the same GB's as when you left, just playing against different decks. Think your play through before wasting cards.
6) Keep your monsters alive.

Hope that helps.
